Well, did anyone spot THIS coming?
There’s a new King of Kong, and he’s not a school teacher. He’s a plastic surgeon.
We’ve mentioned it before, but it’s worth a quick reminder to our Brisbane readers that the Mana Bar opens this weekend.
Sadly, there won’t be much in the way of retro or indie gaming to be had… Co-owner Yug recently told Stewie Sutherland of AltMagOnline “We will be exclusively featuring the latest generation consoles – no older consoles or PC’s I’m afraid.” So, no Worms or Galaga or Outrun2: Coast 2 Coast.
He did add a small glimmer of hope for retro fans… “…we do plan to do a few events based around 80’s and 90’s classics available through Wii Ware and Xbox Live.”
Either way, it’s great to see gaming branching out into new places. Hope the launch (& future trading) is a great success.
If you’re in the Brisbane area this Saturday, here’s the relevant info.
Over the years, people have added lots of cool weapons to Doom1/2. Uzis, autoguns, flamethrowers, sniper rifles. But today, I’ve stumbled upon the most powerful Doom weapon ever.
Ladies & Gentlemen…
behold the unimaginable power of…
the RickRoller.
That Spiderdemon stood no chance.
Oh dear. Player 3 (aged 8 months) has his first cold. Very sad little fellow. And sadly – not much sleep for mum & dad. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…….

The subject was ‘brand extensions’… when a game series try to do something radically different to what they’re known for. Check out my guest blogpost & don’t forget to leave a comment. 🙂
If you’ve got a suitable videogame-themed piece to submit, visit the link above, and you could win a Playstation 3 for your efforts.
If there’s anything (besides our delightful Player 3) that took up my time in 2009, it’s Spelunky.
Derek Yu’s evil evil evil work of evil genius fantastic platformer completely captured me… like no other 2D game has… for a long loooooooong time.
Now, hot off the internets… the honourable Mr Yu has uploaded the first screenshots of Spelunky (XBLA version).
You may have heard of the Mana Bar… a games plus drinks venue opening soon in Brisbane, Australia. It’s being put together by Guy ‘Yug’ Blomberg (AustralianGamer), Ben ‘Yahtzee’ Croshaw (Zero Punctuation), Prasant Moorthy (a Sega designer), and Shay Leighton (a bartender).
Thank god they remembered at least one person needed to know what to do with the liquid stuff.
We’re working on an interview with a few of the guys before the launch day (sorry for the delay Yug, things have been a bit mental at JOMG headquarters) and soon we…
OH WAIT A MINUTE, YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT THE LAUNCH!
Just a sec:
If you’re as excited about this game as I am, you want ANSWERS NOW. You don’t want me to explain (again) the plot, basic gameplay or critical reception of this classic Commodore 64 game.
Instead, let’s fire up the remake, and dive right in…
