As mentioned previously, I’ve been doing a little bit of guest-blogging over at Wired UK’s GEEK DAD blog.
This time, my post’s about the age-old tradition of geeks supplying ‘tech support’ to family members. You know, removing 391 viruses from a single machine.. or in this case, making a PC a little more ‘kidsafe’ so little Johnny doesn’t learn too much about anatomy at an early age…
It’s funny how one thing can lead to another, on the net.
About a month ago, I spotted an interesting tweet that someone I follow had ‘retweeted’. I followed the tweet back to the writer, to read more of what they had to say. They happened to be a writer for Wired UK, the anglo offshoot of the famous US magazine. And they’d mentioned something called a ‘GeekDad’ blog, which was looking for contributors.
I sent a few emails, wrote some demo posts, and recently had my first GeekDad post published.
Happy new year!
Before we leap into 2011, we thought we’d just crunch a few numbers from the past year of JustOneMoreGame….
In 2010, J-OMG had 59 new posts, growing the total archive to 170 posts.
The busiest day of the year was October 4th. The most popular post that day was World exclusive: The Politician who Pwns.
The top referring sites in 2010 were indiegames.com, overclockers.com.au, bluesnews.com, stumbleupon.com, and netbookgamer.com.
Some visitors came searching, mostly for last ninja remake, backgames, sega rally 3, the last ninja remake, and just one more game.
These are the posts and pages that got the most views in 2010.

Things at J-OMG have been quiet recently. Too quiet.
Unfortunately, recent weeks have seen a number of serious illnesses in the family, along with far too much ‘real’ work, and -to top it off- the J-OMG PC died.
But finally, things are looking up. 🙂
Sometime today/tomorrow we’ll be uploading our latest ‘Release Day interview’.
Hmmm, which game gets the treatment?
It won’t be long till you find out…
Now THIS is a cool surprise.
Last week, Fairfax Media blogger Jason Hill suggested I edit the J-OMG “Politician who Pwns” story into something more suitable for Screen Play’s YOUR TURN segment. I did so, and used a few quotes from David Bartlett that didn’t make it in their original article.
The story was published today on the Fairfax network, and I thought that was it.
Not quite.
Wow, despite a zero dollar promotional budget, and many non-blogging demands on my time… JustOneMoreGame has just cracked Technorati’s “Top 100 gaming blogs”.
Thankyou to my ever-patient wife who puts up with my blog-related natterings, my son (“Player 3”) who wishes I’d let him hit the keyboard more often, and to you, my reader who makes all this stuff worthwhile.
Thanks must also go to the many lovely commenters and story suggesters, the nice people who ‘retweet’ our posts, and the lovely sites who care enough to link us occasionally.
Recently, we highlighted the new(ish) Aussie gaming podcast Game Taco.
Episode 5 of Game Taco is a roundup of Australian indie gaming writers into two parts:
Part 1: Ben Abraham from Ben Abraham dot Net
Part 2: Duncan Fyfe from Life Starts Here
& Gabe McGrath from Just One More Game.
Wait a minute, that’s me!
Sorry for the lack of updates recently.
Unfortunately, Mrs J-OMG has been in-and-out-and-in hospital recently, and life has been turned upside down for the past 7 days. We *think* she is getting better, but we’ve thought that a few times.
Obviously, there’s been little time for decent sleep, let alone gaming, let alone writing about gaming.
BUT – I do have something special coming up for J-OMG fans… our first ever podcast interview!
More details very soon…
